My sister was removed from my mothers home through a safety plan by the MCF. I am a student, I can't work due to my lack of availability now, I can't leave school in order to work as I would then be forced to start paying back student loans I can't afford.I should be receiving $400.00 a month from the ministry of finance for 'child in home of relative', but these forms only just got sent in after 2 months because the parents refused to sign the form. The mother is still receiving child support for the child I am caring for, yet she still has the gall to offer us money and then tell us she cant afford to help! That is what that money is for right? I realize she needs to keep the roof over her head but her and her spouse are obviously much better off than my boy friend and I, and even if they weren't it's HER responsibility. I will care for my sister regardless, but was hoping someone had advice, legal or otherwise, as to options. I probably don't have any but I'm just so frustrated.

I have always believed that child support should go towards the child- clothes, school things, shoes, doc. visits, medications. I do not believe that child support should go for the roof over anybodys head- granted it does help the child but if you can't afford a roof over your head without child support then you shouldn't have a child., or other bills. I believe that if child support was spent on the child support was spent on the child then your own income could be spent on the household bills. In your case you are not recieving child support, if the child is living with you that means you are spending all your money on your needs and the childs- which is not fair to you considering you are not the childs mother. I believe that whoever the child is living with should be the one that should be reciving the child support. I don't know what the situation is with the childs father but maybe he could take her for a little while to get some of the finacial burden off of you and your boyfriend. If that's not a possibility maybe you could talk to him and tell him that you do not believe it to be fair that the child support is going to the mother and not you. Y'all could get a judge to have the money sent to you instead for the time being, if that's what y'all decide would be best.

Since I am in the U.S.,I don't know what MCF is. I would contact them about changing the child support over to you since you have physical custody of your sister. Here, even Foster Parents (which is basically what you are now) get paid from the State.

It will take time to get the funds diverted to you. Just be patient and keep calling the MCF to find out what the status of the child support is...be the squeaky wheel...sometimes that works.

You need to contact social services and report her and apply for assistance yourself. I'm surprised that the dept that removed your sister did not follow through with this to make sure notification was made that the child was removed. You may want to check on that also.

Are you in the U.S.? If so, contact your local Children Services Office. Your mother is commiting fraud to the government! That is a federal crime and she can be arrested for that. You should be receiving the assistance.
