Gigs are short for gigabytes, and you'll often see them written as GB. They are how much space you have on your iPod. For instance, I have the 5th generation video, so I have about 30 gigs.
Megabytes (MB) is just how much a song or video is. Like, a song is usually 2 or 3 MB. A YouTube video is usually 7 or 8 MB, and a movie can be around 500 MB.
There are 1,024 MB in 1 GB. So you see, the iPods hold a lot! =D
I tried to give you an easy to understand, hope I helped! Email me with any other questions! =P
