As long as a deal isn't consummated with another team the Yankees are still in it. I will say that it now appears the Red Sox have the upper hand but anything can happen, including Santana staying with the Twins.

It looks to me that the Yanks are out of it. Boston is likely to be the new home of Santana, but NY might just try to run up the price for Boston a bit. The crazy part is Minn wants a TON for him. I'm a Mets fan and have been following the trade pretty closely. The Twins wanted either Beltran or Reyes plus two or three younger players! And the Mets have the third highest bankroll behind the Yankees and the Red Sox. So if they don't lower their prices he might actually stay a Twinkie.

The Yankees are always in the running. Hank Steinbrenner is an idiot and should learn to keep his mouth shut. However, in the end, money talks and a trade will be made. Face it, the Yankees cannot afford to lose Santana to the Red Sox. It's as simple as that.

probably, no way they can compete with the prospects that are being thrown out.
realistically the yanks cant give up what little they have b/c santana might not even be a guarantee to be locked up.
right now its probably going to be the angels because they have a ton of prospects and just lost out on mcab.

They are never out. Look at ARod. They said they wouldn't talk to him if he opted out and look what happened.
