I plan to buy an evaporative air conditioner in March 2008 ( just before the summer season starts in the Philippines ). I am considering this option since the electricity consumption of the usual air conditioner is much higher.

Do you have any experience in using this equipment as compared to the usual air conditioner ?

Note : I need to cool a enclosed space with a 30 square meter floor area and a height of 3.5 meters.

Thank you.

An evaporative cooler works on just that evaporation. In a dry climate they work very well. The only part of the Philippines I have been in is to humid for them to work well.

Using an Evaporative Air Conditioner has many benefits. The main one is saving money on your electric bill which puts less strain on our world resources.

For example on www.ffemax.com , they have a Portable air conditioner listed with 12,000 BTU which can cool a 46 sq m² room or 500 sq feet.

That would easily cool your 30 square meter floor area.

Absolutely will not work! You're humidity is way too high! A evaporative swamp cooler max humidity is about 30% for any decent cooling. Any humidity higher than that and you're wasting energy. Get a central unit or a portable refrigerated unit and you'll be OK.

If you are talking about a unit with a fan where water circulates over the outside and cools the air by evaporation, I can tell you that it only works in climates with low humidity.
