Yeah might be that you might be having any spyware
have you tried to download any free stuffs on the internet?
Anyways Solution to your problem is as follows
Run www.speedtest.com
And make sure that you optimise your browser everyday for efficient working of your Browser
Also check with Task manager and check as in how much % is processor in use?
And then end all the unwanted processes
You can go to http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/ and download the mozilla firefox or try reinstalling the browsers again if you already have them.
Also you can put up a good Anti virus to keep check on spywares and freewares and virus that will also help you a lot

Just a quick test that I'd do to see if it is website related or browser related...

Try setting your home page to be a blank page. See if the browser still opens slowly or if it comes up right away. If the browser still takes a long time to launch, the problem probably isn't related to your connection. If the browser comes up quickly, try next to set to a simple page that returns almost instantly (i.e. the Google page).

These won't solve the problem but should point you in the right direction of where to look.
