What we "think" is true is what we come to "believe" is true. Even if it is false...
Peace and Blessings....

He may have said that, but with little backing.

The next 'major' end-of-the-world prediction date is quite specific: December 21, 2012.

Actually, it's not an end date but the end of a 'cycle'.

And where did this date come from? The ancient Mayans, of course.

Somehow these ancient people accurately measured and forecasted astronomical events and calculated that the present 'cycle' (which started August 11, 3114 BC) would be on the solstice, Dec 21, 2012.

While it is a little creepy that a civilization that ended so long ago predicted the end of the world in our time, but hey, people have been predicting the end of the world for as long as they've been around... so far, so good.

If you're worried, just keep some emergency supplies handy in 2012. If it's just a new 'cycle' maybe the end is survivable... if it were to come at all.

Good luck :)

I understand what your friend is trying to say. The pagans believed (hundreds of years ago) that the world was going to end in 2011. People have been wondering why 2011 has been chosen by the pagans, many believe that they have said this because of the stars or a spirit of some kind appeared infront of one of there ceromonies. Don't worry though, no potential threat has been spotted for the end of the world, on the other hand, asteroids, nuclear war and the infamous super volcanoes are worrying some people! One of the biggest threats is yellowstone park! I highly doubt that. However as long as the universe exists, there will always be people claiming that the end is right around the corner; just don't listen to them. Besides, why would you want to live your life in fear of something that's not going to happen for millions/billions of years?

The "End of the World' has come hundreds of times - and will keep on coming!

As long as there are seers writing vague prophecies liable to a multitude of interpretations, as long as there are comets returning to visit every hundred years or so, as long as there are meteors zeroing in from every direction in the Galaxy.....business is guaranteed.

Didn't you get the memo?

Perhaps you should buy more books on the subject. You won't need the money anyhow, and the authors will continue their quest for riches in a world that they claim is going to end.

This is nothing that shows it is going to end anytime soon. Various religious folk will tell you a time certain, but the Christian Bible says that no one knows the day, not one.

Just to be safe, hide, starting now. Better yet, quit you job, sell your house and all belongings. Head to Europe and hang until 2012. You can then start again.

a long count is something to do with the movement of the stars and other heavenly bodies and people have wondered why the Mayans had such knowledge about the stars.......

i think its the date when the aliens comeback to earth to check up on us after they gave us civilization.
