I want to align the timing marks. However, i just took off the crankshaft pulley and bolt. Can I turn the camshaft bolt. Or do I have to put the crankshaft pulleyback on and turn it clockwise. I know it's going the correct direction. It's just i'm not sure i'll break the camshaft bolt.

Just put the crankshaft pulley bolt back in, no need to fit the pulley unless your other timing mark is on that.

I've always rotated the engine by the crankshaft you can put the bolt back on without the pully on. Your biggest problem is getting everything to line up depending on the vehicle's manufacturer the timing marks are not always the same and not always in the same spots.

Your 'ninety six Ranger 4.0 has a timing chain, no longer a belt. there is not any service mandatory. whether, the transmission would not use equipment oil, it makes use of Mercon, this is computerized trans fluid, and could injury down plenty greater easily than equipment oil could. i could get the handbook transmission serviced at your next oil substitute era. easily, Ford now recommends Mercon V on your transmission, so be sure thats what you put in it. This information is consistent with Ford's tech internet site, which I merely regarded up for you, and strong success which incorporate your Ranger!
