I'd like to get my mother one for Christmas. Do stores still sell them in winter?

That's a great idea! I don't know where you live but in the US Lowes, Home Depot. Walmart all carry them.
Birds love a winter bath. They get into my garden pond when it's frozen over except for the deicer hole in it.
Lowes has more in store than online.
Infact Lowes has a larger selection even now than walmart does in the spring. Just go back to the garden center.

Edited: They have them online as well. I just checked and I was in the garden center at Lowes (about 1 week ago) and they keep them back there. If walmart has any they are kept there as well I wiould imagine Home Depot keeps theirs out also..That is a popular item at Christmas. Bird Stuff.

Check out AudubonWorkshop.com This is where I get my birding supplies from. They sell them year round. They may have a sale running right now.

Most of them are put away to make room for Winter items, but if you go into a garden centre they might pull one out from storage for you . If not give your mom a gift certificate ,this way she can buy one in the Spring.

Might be a great time to buy one.
Since most of these are considered "Spring and Summer" items, they might be on clearance in many home stores.
Here are a couple of online stores. Might want to check out Ebay or Overtock also.

You could check at Lowes, Home Depot, Super K. But...I don't know if you are going to have any luck at this time of year. There are on-line stores that sell them, try duncraft.com.
