Ever watch a movie you haven't seen since you were little? All of a sudden you notice parts of the movie you never noticed before. That's because you were stupid when you were a kid. There are still certain things you don't catch that other people do. That means your dumber than them. No biggie. There are worse things than being stupid.

When I call someone stupid, that means that I think they are stupid. By the way, what a stupid question !

It's an insult for one. It just means someone who makes bad decisions or received a poor education or is incapable of learning. To me, I use it to mean someone who is stubborn and incapable of admitting that they could be wrong.
