how do you set up msn so that it will tell when a new mail has come?

do i have to have a hotmail account or any account is ok to get msn alert that a new mail has come?

will need latest version of MSN (or WLM) this is preferred as i cant remember what version introduced this feature

and it will happen automaticially as default for those with a Hotmail account... - unfortunately it will not work if you have a yahoo or gmail account for example, it needs to be hotmail
