This is probably going to sound really corny, but I'm 18 years old, and I'm in a relationship with a 17 year old. I try to tell my mother that in our state, which is Ohio, the age of consent is 16, and if we would ever start having sex (which I don't see in the near future), I would be fine, unless his mother has a problem with it. When I try to tell her this, she doesn't want to hear anything about it and she gets all mad... I have indeed done research, though... and she starts saying, "I'm a parent. I know nothing. You're a teenager. You know everything." And that truly ticks me off.
I need 2 things.
One: (This is going to sound really dumb.) Age of consent is where the younger party, in this case, a 17 year old, can agree to have sex, right? Or am I missing something here?
Two: How in God's name can I convince my mother about all this?
Someone, please help.

You need to research the statutory rape laws for your state, as they do vary and PRESENT THE EVIDENCE TO HER.

Wait until said person is 18 and remove that stumbling block

You know what? Tell her you've already done it, even if you haven't. That will put her at the "get over it" stage instead of being at the "raise hell about you potentially doing it " stage. She can run down to the local police station if she wants to (which is a possibility) but anything she tells the cops is hearsay andt is likely inadmissible.

Alternatively, MOVE OUT AND LIVE YOUR OWN LIFE. As others here have said, Mom's just having a hard time acknowledging that that you've grown up and no longer are her little girl. There is no need to continue to appease her, as you're gonna have to leave the safety of the nest (including her control of you) sooner or later.

Most of all, whatver you do, act responsibly. And have a great life.

At your a protracted time, the only ingredient which may be unlawful is sexual intercourse (which incorporate oral). in the experience that your father is a lawyer, he could understand that. The appropriate Penal Code sections are 261.5, unlawful intercourse (which you need to violate), 288a, oral copulation (which you need to violate), and 288, lewd habit with a baby (that can't be violated if the guy is sixteen or older). in reality, in the experience that your father reported that your siblings ought to be taken away in case you have been relationship somebody 3 years older, I question no remember if he's easily an lawyer considering the fact that this is so a techniques from the actuality. I additionally ask your self why human beings think of three years is such an egregious age distinction. i could be greater concentrated on the relative adulthood of the two persons.

She just doesn't want you boinking.

Age of consent: Sex requires consent. Consent is only effective if it's from an unimpaired person (not stoned or drunk) of the statutory minimum age to grant it. If you're 1 day too young, you can't consent. At midnight on your birthday, you're all set.

How can you convince your mom? You can't. She isn't arguing from logic, she's arguing from emotion. Respect and appreciate that she's concerned for you, and leave it at that. Besides, she doesn't need to know if you two have sex.

I am not really sure, big question is...why do you want to convince her of this. If she was to agree with you, would you run out and have sex. I think it is a mut point. Your mother doesn't want you to have sex. So she will likely never really see your point. The main thing to remember about when to start having sex is, when you are prepared for a possible child. Always use protection until you are wanting a child. If he doesn't tell him to take a hike. Responsibility will help you reach adulthood. I know when I was 18 I thought I knew it all. Looking back , I was a real dumb---. I made so many life changing mistakes I still regret to this day. Don't be in a hurry to grow up. Once you do, you can't ever go back even if you wanted to.

The State Laws of Ohio are available online. Print out and highlight the appropriate section and hang it on the fridge.

The age of consent is when a person can lawfully consent to a sexual encounter. You can convince her by showing her the law: http://moraloutrage.net/staticpages/index.php?page=Ohio

No. 2 first. You'll probably never be able to convince her. She's not reacting to the "fact" of the law, she's reacting emotionally to the "loss" of her baby. Only with time will this heal...

She's your mother, you're not going to be able to convince her that it's ok for you to have sex.
