None, sorry. 1 gallon is too small for any type of fish, even a goldfish or a betta. All fish need constant water conditions, and a 1 gallon is too small for that. Fish tanks need filters, some need heaters, and they need 25% water changes a week. A child under 12 probably couldn't handle that. If you get a 5 gallon tank, with a filter and heater, you could get him a betta. The parent would have to do the 25% weekly water changes, as well as feeding it (3 pellets 6 days a week) so the child doesn't overfeed it. Fish care isn't simple, in fact, cats are easier pets then fish. You are missing some important things on your list if you do actually get him a fish after all that. You'd need: At least a 5 gallon tank betta pellets a heater a filter gravel silk plants decorations (no sharp edges!) water conditioner a thermometer a bucket (for water changes) an algae scrubber a gravel vacuum or gravel siphon (for water changes) This will probably come out to around $50. Fish aren't cheap, easy pets. You need proper equipment and care for them to live. The child will be heart broken if you get him a fish that doesn't have proper care, causing it to die within a week. *BTW, fancy goldfish need a minimum of 30 gallons, 70 for a plain goldfish. If you want to get a gift that won't be a total pain in the butt, get a stuffed toy fish instead.

any type of pet is fine-- the question is what do YOU feel like taking care off-- if you have a lot of time and are home a lot then a cat or dog-- if youre not home a lot a goldfish

He is too young to take care of a live animal. Get real! Unless you plan on taking care of it. A fish or bird something he or she can't handle! Get it!

No!, Don't get him
A hamster
Bird
Gerbil
Or Goldfish.
They Die too fast, get him a kitten, more fun, and they live longer, get it from The Rescue centre, and it will already be Neutered/ doctored so it wont want to stray. Love Jo xx

if he isn't allergic a cat is probably the easiest. You don't have to take them out just change litter and put down food. I like dogs much better but more work.
