Hi
I have a slew of avi and mpg files and the like that I want to play on my iPod Classic. The user guide tells me I can drag and drop - that doesn't work. The iTunes Library has the 'Add File to Library option - let's me browse to the files fine but when I double click the file or select and 'open' - nothing happens. What am I doing wrong - do I need some sort of upgrade for Quicktime?

You're me! I tried the same thing. iPods (and Zunes for that matter) won't allow you to play old avi or mpeg video clips on them because they could have been pirated (even if they wern't). Go to this site and check out the review and look at...I think it's the 3rd page where it talks about what can and can't be played.

It sounds as though the files aren't in the right format. They have to be in MPEG-4 (aka mp4) format.

If they're small videos (under 100 MB) then you can use a simple online converter: http://www.zamzar.com . Just browse for the file and press Convert to mp4. Then type in your email. A few mins later they'll send you an email. Just click the link, press Download, Save, and save it somewhere. Then open iTunes and click File > Add File to Library.

If they're large videos, like movies, then you'll have to download something. I recommend http://freez-ipod-video-converter.en.softonic.com/ . It's completely free and safe, and I've never had any probs with it.

Well, good luck =D

if you have the ipod video it should work unless the videos arent in Mpeg4 format and to get it into Mpeg4 format you need a converter such as jodix which is available at jodix.com if this doesn't work than you don't have the ipod classic video
