The history of America:

Amerigo Vespucci....
He went on the tour in 1502 and 1504, which was before Martin produced his map. Martin named America after Amerigo, then thought he was falsifying his own work, so he renamed it from America to Terra Incognita, and then later it was changed back to America, in honour of the work done by Amerigo Vespucci.

Bunch of stupid idiots.....

Actually we are not America, we are the United States of America. We live on the North American Continent. There are many other people who live in other countries in the North American Continent who do not like it when we call ourselves Americans, it has become pretty much our custom to do so, but it really is not right.

Well the band was once called United States of America but now they go by just America.

~You weren't specific so I thought I would have fun with this one!! But in any case the first map states America.

~Amerigo Vespucci named the map Amerigo for the New World, but again you weren't specific. You can't expect people to answer you question correctly if you are not specific.

~and you can't spell prove so what does that tell you!!!!!!

Vineland - at least the first Europeans that landed here were Vikings, and they called it that (referred to as Vinlander, I think, in Norwegean). I don't know how the many Native American tribes referred to their land, if that's what you're asking.

That will tell you all about the naming of America! I might not be much good to you in this area, because I'm not American, but I might think it was called "The new World".
