Ok so I have irregular periods and so I'm thinking of getting on the shot. However, I will not take the pills because I NEVER remember to take pills. Therefore i want to get the shot instead. If you've been on the shot, can you tell me your experiences? I've heard that they make you lose weight, yet others say it makes you gain weight? Can someone tell me what happened to them? What side effects did you get? Do you recommend it?

PLEASE reconsider the shot.

TOO many women suffer too many horrible side affects and health risks because of this shot.

I was on it for a long time, and I'm so glad I'm off it.

Very very very very very very few people LOSE weight on this shot and way way way too many people gain on this shot.

My side affects:

Weight gain
Loss of libido
Horrible horrible mood swings

Other women have experienced even worse than what I went through.

Please check out this site:

and google "depo provera lawsuit", as there are several class action lawsuits for what this does to women.

I would never recommend this.

Yes, you will hear "I did fine on the shot" but they are SO FEW and far between, do you really want to risk it?

I had the same negative side effect as the first woman who answered. I had bleeding everyday for more than two months. The doctor finally gave me the patch to counter the effects of the shot. It stopped my bleeding all together so I decided to stay with the birth control patch. You only have to change it once a week which was easy enough for me to remember. I was just like you...I hardly ever remembered to take my pills.

I had it and was neither up nor down. No side effects, no weight gain or loss. Have you ever considered the rod implant. It is inserted into your arm and you are protected for around 3/5 years. I heard it is better that the shot which only lasts 3 months. Speak to your doctor.

I HATED the depo shot & will NEVER get it again. I had my period every day for the entire 3 month period. It did not make me lose or gain weight though. Once my 3 months was up I got an IUD and I have loved it.
