As I was growing up ,my Dad, who worked in retail in London, used to bring me home 5 dresses, If I liked them all, I kept them. Things were chosen , for me.
When I got married, had 3 kids, didn't have the money to spend on myself.
Eventually spent money on myself, clothes wise, through catalogues.
Now, Partner gives me £200 to get something nice and I come back with nothing! I have been in tears before now when I have actually gone out to buy something I want but I just can't do it!
I remember seeing a pair of trousers in M&S for £49. and I just couldn't spend the money.
Most of my clothes are from 20 years ago, old faded and wrinkled, a bit like me really but, am I the only woman in the world who can't shop?

Outta here. Soft old elastic type describes me perfectly. Along with faded wrinkled and out of date.

I don't like shopping and sometimes it's a real pain to have to go shopping especially if I know I have to buy an outfit for a special occasion. My daughter got wed last Summer and spending weeks hunting for an outfit I found an absolute nightmare.
Whilst I was growing up and when my own kids were little money was tight so I rarely splashed out on myself the kids came first. Although now financially it's a bit easier I find it hard to spend on myself without feeling guilty, goodness knows why. Like you I'll often go home with nothing and just feel frustrated or I'll buy something that wasn't really my first choice because it's not as expensive. It drives my Hubby mad as he's the opposite he loves shopping and when he has money to spend on himself he loves every minute of it although even he always enjoys shopping for the bargains.
Glad to see so many other people on here don't like it either, I was beginning to think it was just me!

Don't cry! You have lots of company.
I loathe shopping - of any kind...with the exception of flea markets and yard sales...
I buy "classic" clothes that will last through all the latest trends. Not being a slave to fashion, what I buy fits in anywhere at anytime. I simply don't go shopping until what I have is starting to get ratty-HA!
When I shop, if I find something I like, I'll buy it in every color, same with shoes, jeans, slacks, sweaters, etc. That way, I don't have to shop as much....
Around the house I'm a comfortable, soft, old and elastic type dresser... so when something gets too ratty to wear in public, it goes in my comfy clothes drawer.....
For holiday shopping, I shop all year. Whenever I see something someone might like I buy it. This keeps me from having to hit the stores and malls this time of the year...I HATE malls and haven't been to one in over 15 years.
I also do some shopping on line.
So, wear your old, faded, wrinkled things. You have lots of company.

I don't mind shopping, what I mind is the high prices at the malls. I usually go to Name Brands 1/2 of 1/2, Dav or Goodwill. I always manage to find good stuff. I have a whole drawer of cashmere sweaters I got at Name Brands for less than $20 ea, and I buy jeans and jackets at Goodwill, often for $5. or less. This takes the stress out of it for me, and I do love a bargain! Finding good clothes at a bargain price is like a treasure hunt, kind of like the flea markets, and I do love vintage clothes also, so it is like a game to me.
But shopping at the mall freezes me up, I hate it and I won't go. To many crowds, to much stuff all alike, and mostly for teens, and too high prices. I am like you, I wouldn't buy anything.

I hate shopping!!! I use catalogs and shop on line now. There is nothing wrong with that. No crowds, no trying on one set of clothes after another and no walking from store to store. It is easier to spend money when you are not handing over the cash right then and there. Don't worry about it. Stick to the catalogs and on line shopping. I have a friend who drags me to a mall from time to time. She loves shopping. I can't get out of there quick enough.

I do not enjoy shopping one bit. If I need something I go to GoodWill becaue if helps provide jobs for many, the clothes many times have tags on them and I would feel guilty as hell for spending so much money in department stores. For me, I pay my bills first, there isn't anything left usually, but I really don't need anything anyway.

I hate shopping especially for clothes. I can't stand the crowds in the stores and I don't like the styles of clothes that I see in magazines. I do like to go to thrift stores and buy my jeans and sweaters, etc. But I buy underwear from J.C. Penneys. That's the extent of my dept. store shopping. Oh, and I buy shoes at stores too. Recently I found a 30% cashmere,70% wool p-coat, and a longer 100% wook coat for $1 each at DAV thrift store. I took them to the cleaners and got them cleaned. I saw one of the coats in a magazine advertized for $150!!!

No you're not. My husband is a spender, and I'm always afraid that he will spend too much and there won't be any money left for an emergency, so I rat hole money away. He is always telling me to go out and buy some new clothes, but I just can't bring myself to do it.

I'm a male (an old one at that) and when shopping for new suits ,shirts, etc I always look first. If I still like it after 3 weeks I go back and purchase it. Since my "quirk" is buying in multiples I have got to like it . When your husband gives you money to spend , spend it without guilt. He gave it to you to also make himself feel better, cause he knows that you sacrafice for the family.

I don't like to shop either but don't know if I can call it a phobia. I've learned to catalog shop or on line and that isn't so bad. Yes, I have to occasionally return something because of fit but not often.

I'm OK during off peak hours, but I have run out of stores and malls when I see too many people. I hate the stores during the holiday season, and do most of my shopping on line.
