My father had a deep wound and got 5 stiches inside and 15 stiches outside last thursday, now when we saw it the part that is stiched looks as if its swollen kind of like 3d from the rest of his arm... Is this normal? any suggestions?

Redness, heat, pain and swelling indicate an inflammatory response which may be caused by infection. I would most definitely have him see his doctor to make sure he does not need an antibiotic. And by the way, DO NOT just try to treat this with something like neosporin. Neosporin may heal the outside of the wound but it will do nothing for the infection inside of a wound which if untreated can enter the bloodstream and then you have big, big expensive problems. See the doc!!

It may need to be drained out, there could be fluid built up from that area of injury.

Tell your doctor about it too!!!


Mom had that on her knee when she broke her kneecap in 1989, she had to have her knee drained since there was so much fluid built up inside of her knee.

swelling like that indicates infection, waste no time in getting him to the doctor for treatment.
