It doesn’t make any sense to me
just say what’s your final offer and if they don't wont it then don’t trade for him and the red sox will have to give a better offer but now the red sox know that the Yankees are out of the bidding and can get him for at as the same value that the Yankees offered (and maybe even less)

I understand he didn't want to be in a bidding war with the red sox but he should of said publicly that this is our offer if want it take it with out a dead line and so the red sox will have make a better offer but now the red can say you don't have the Yankees on the table

it may have been a ploy to spur the Twins into making a quicker decision. It may also be cuz the Yanks truly want to stick with their own talent. The Twins were asking for WAY too much in return (Hughes, Melky, and Kennedy and a minor player?). That's too much.
I do believe that letting Boston swoop in is a bad idea, but I'm not in favor of giving up the entire farm to get him. For all we kno, any of those pitchers on the Red Sox are a pitch away from being out for the season; people forget that happened to the Yanks at the beginning of their season.

Actually that's false, the Red Sox will still have to give up their top prospects for Santana. The twins are smart, they are doing the right thing, and they will try to suck out as many players as they can from the Red Sox. If they aren't able to, than they will stick with Santana and see what happens in 08 with the return of Liriano.
Hank did a nice move by setting a deadline for the trade, this way they can go and look at other arms just in case they miss out on Santana, The way the Yankees and the Red Sox were fighting out for Santana it seemed that it would take a really long time for any of them to actually land him. By the time one of them lands him, it might be too late for the other to look for trades else where. And that is what the Yankees didn't want to do, "Play the Game."
Take a look at the link below, it gives a more insight as to where the Red Sox are after the Yankees pulled out. It seems they are having second thoughts about trading for him.
Let's see how it all works out...since now the Yankees have options of either trading for Haren or Bedard

What has come out is that they really didn't want to part with Melky or Hughes in the first place. It was also done because the Twins kept asking for more and more as it went on and seeing who (Yankees or Red Sox) would blink first. Now even with the Yankees out of it, the Twins are still trying to get the biggest/best package of young talent that they can. Santana still has a no trade clause and can still veto any trade.

The longer the trade negotations went on, the more the Twins were going to want for Santana and that was all the Yanks were willing to offer and they were bluffing trying to get the Twins to sell quick but the Twins called and busted the Yanks... the Yankees may get back in it though, I don't see them just letting the Red Sox take Santana like that

He thought that the Twinkies were playing Red Sox against Yankees to drive up the asking price, and he was probably right.
At this point the Sox are still playing the game, but the Yanks can jump back in any time they want.

He said he didn't like Twins management jumping back and forth between the Red Sox and the Yankees trying to sweeten the pot. We have no reason not to take him at his word.

Santana traditionally has been between the finished pitchers contained in the majors after the all enormous call damage. he's almost unbeatable at domicile some thing else of how. i'd not commerce him for Dye or Ichiro, yet Vlad may be exciting in case you want the large bat.

Because thats what a**hole Steinbrenners do. They play baby games and make false promises. Just like Hank went back on his word regarding Gay- Rod he will go back on his word regarding Santana.
