ill probably keep calling it the persian gulf instead of the arabian gulf.

No one changed it. Both are in use, depending on the country. In the US, it's still called the Persian Gulf.

Considering that most people today couldn't identify Persia, much less locate it, Arabia seems a good choice. Renaming it to the current country were Persia mostly used to be seems unlikely (Iran)

They didn't like the name persian.
