All that matters is that he is eating well with lots of wet diapers & bowel movements are regular.
And- is he 'growing' steadily? Even if slow- steady is what matters.
What does the Dr. say?

Babies usually gain about 1/2 lb (or a little less) each week during the first three months. So in 6 week he should have gained about 2.5 to 3 pounds.

For 8.7 to 11 is about 2.5 pounds, so sounds like he is doing good.

Usually what you look at more than weight is: is the baby hunger? Does he eat well? Is he having regular bowel movements? Does he go through several wet diapers a day?

If all of those are "yes", then he is doing fine.

How much was he when he was born? My son was 9.5 when he was born so that was a normal weight.

If your son is going to gain weight fast I'd advise you to keep him active... Tummy time is great and put some toys out of his reach so he'll have to work... I did this with my son the day he came home from the hospital and he started crawling at 4-1/2 months and walking 7-1/2. I give all the credit to his tummy time :)

Check out this site: http://www.infantrefluxdisease.com/infant-growth-percentile-calculator.php

It can give you an idea of where your child falls in relation to other children his age. There is no ideal weigh for babies, they all grow differently and as long as they are healthy and growing consistently their actual weight doesn't really matter.
