Let's say the tortoise moves at one mile per hour, and the hare, in his overconfidence, starts with a 2 hour nap. then runs at 3 miles per hour. See the pic:

Solve the system to find out when the tortoise catches up with the hare:
X = (1/3)X + 2
X + 6 = 3X
6 = 2x
x = 3hours
