My car (Kia sportage 4x4) has been messed up. It overheats and sounds rough. I have researched possible problems that is causing this (I can't afford to pay a high mechanic bill) and every symptom to all three of these is the same, so what's the difference and is one harder to fix than the other??? I think it may be a head gasket, because it is overheating, running rough etc. I need to know what to prepare for expense wise and headache too. Thanks for any answers/advice!!

Sorry to say any one of these will be an expensive fix. If its the engine that is blown, that will be the most costly, this is where the engine is seized up. If its a cracked head, usually you will have brown cream in your oil. I would take it to a reputable repair facility for a proper diagnosis. This will cost about an hours labor and will pinpoint the problem. Make sure they do a block test also.

I wish I could see it or at least have a discussion with you. Were you good about oil changes and using good quality oil?? How many miles on it?? You may just need a tune-up. The best thing to do is to go to the Kia dealer at lunch time. and ask a hungry mechanic, who has focused his automotive attentions specifically to this product and probably knows it best, to lunch and get his opinion...It might not be as bad a problem as you think. Good luck!!

a cracked block is the hardest to fix because you have to replace the entire block so that requires an entire engine strip down

if it is overheating it could be a blown head gasket cracked head cracked block warped head warped block warped pistons well it is probably a blown head gasket
