How are symbolism and allegory related?

Not sure what this has to do with biology, symbolism is using images, people, characters, objects or places to stand for something else, such as the lamb standing for Christ in pictures and sculptures and song. Allegory is a story in which the plotline/story parallels human experience but uses symbols to tell the story with the expectation that people will connect the lesson with the human experience - the story of the little engine that could or Animal Farm.
