For instance, "Mrs." is "Misses", "Mr." is "Mister". So "Ms." is...what? "Mizz"? That doesn't seem right.

To all of you who answered "miss", that's not correct. "Ms." is neither "Misses" nor "Miss". It's a different title altogether.

When a females marital status, whether she is unmarried or widow is not known or it is not be divulged the word Ms. is used as prefix to the name. It is a complete word in itself. Some however , are of the opinion that is abridged from the word mizz.

Yes, I’ve noticed it, and it irritates me to no end. I’m an editor for an epublishing company and part of my job is to review submissions. I reviewed one a few months ago and on the first page the author had 32 spelling, punctuation, and grammar errors. Yes, I counted them, because I was so amazed that someone would have the audacity to submit something like that. Do you think I read past that first page? Of course not. It may have been the most fascinating plot ever conceived, it may have had wonderful characters, but I’d venture to say the author is never going to be published until they actually learn how to spell, punctuate, and construct a sentence. I don’t expect pure perfection in those areas, but I do expect something that’s semi-acceptable. Bottom line--there are too many good submissions for me to waste my time with something like that. And by the way, this was not a teenager. It was a grown woman.

Wow, there are so many people who posted answers who, it appears, didn't even read the question all the way through. The OP is asking how to spell Ms. - pronounced "mizz" but doesn't actually have a full spelling, it's just written "Ms." - not how to spell "miss" which doesn't have a written abbreviation.

For those who don't know the difference, miss is used by some women whom are unwed, while Ms. is used by women whom do not wish to advertise their marital status in their title.

Muzz. In my experience it`s generally applied to a divorcee who is neither a Miss or Mrs anymore. I have also known some older unmarried ladies use it as well instead of Miss.

There isn't any 'writing it out'. Thats the whole of the word. like 'miss' is, it's not shortened from something else like 'mrs' is from 'mistress' So it's spelt ms, and I pronounce it 'muz'. And it no more means 'miss' than it does 'mister'
