I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.
Mohandas Gandhi
They cherry pick those parts of the bible they want to believe and follow which in itself probably everyone does cos the book is outdated and filled with contradictions. But it says a lot they will twist obscure verses to justify their hatred and condemnation of gay people for example but ignore the very real clear and no doubt about it verses about dealing with enemies.
It doesn't get much clearer than this not in the whole bible
27"But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. 29If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other also. If someone takes your cloak, do not stop him from taking your tunic. 30Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. 31Do to others as you would have them do to you.
32"If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even 'sinners' love those who love them. 33And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even 'sinners' do that. 34And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even 'sinners' lend to 'sinners,' expecting to be repaid in full. 35But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. 36Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.
Judging Others
37"Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. 38Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."
39He also told them this parable: "Can a blind man lead a blind man? Will they not both fall into a pit? 40A student is not above his teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like his teacher.
41"Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 42How can you say to your brother, 'Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,' when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.

True dilemna...He also warned against arguments of faith...which this is. You craftily omit the fact that war and the death penalty are government actions (give caesar what is caesars) While downplaying the Good christians attempts to be charitable and kind, You ask why we are not powerfull enough to stop war and death,Yet you yourself would beg for God's safety if you were in either place(war-death row).Christianity has been hijacked by a few bad men over time...and you use these unchristian acts to preach that all of christianity is fallible....May God find you....and bring you peace.

I think the issue of war can be complicated when it comes to defending our country. When we're struck like we were on 9/11, we need to strike back in order to show the world community that such actions are not acceptable.
Having said that, that applies only to the war in Afghanistan. Iraq is not related.
That's a great question. Jesus came to this world at a time when the Pharisees in the Jewish community decided "We've finally got it. We've figured out how to be good enough for God." They took the original Old Testament laws and added details to them. They took pride in their ability to follow the OT laws.
The Old Testament law was put together simply to show that man can never reach God's holy standards.
Jesus came at this time when the Pharisees "had it all figured out" in order to show that a personal relationship with God was the key, not following the OT laws.
The Pharisees believed they had their own religious nation that God would bless because they were so good that they had earned His favor, and they did everything they could to consolidate their power.
If Jesus came back today, He would find much the same type of circumstances in today's political/Religious Right.

That book also said "An Eye for an Eye" did you forget that little passage.
How are you so sure Christ was a pacifist. Since there is no historical evidence that a Jewish Carpenter named Jesus Christ ever existed let alone performed miracles.
You are applying false logic to a fictional character to embarrass believers, how sad, how very sad.

I'm pretty sure Jesus (especially in those last few hours) was pretty firmly against torture, but that doesn't stop most "Christians" in the US from clamoring for it.
And that "Eye for an eye" argument is pure crap! That statement was meant as a warning to TEMPER justice. Meaning "don't take two eyes for an eye or ALL of someones teeth for a tooth" because that would not be justice, but sick vengence... In retaliation for loosing 2800 people, we have so far (even by the most conservative estimates) killed over 100,000 Iraqi civilians who had NOTHING to do with Sept, 11. That's not an eye for an eye... That's mass murder for an eye.
That would be the same as getting punched in the face, then shooting 10 people the person who punched you doesn't even know in order to teach him a lesson... Whatever the scale, it's WRONG.

Jesus was violent with the money changers in the temple so it only shows you use the Word selectively. The Third Thief on the Cross was not saved. The word of the Old Testament was not repudiated either and Jesus was a Rabbi.

All religions teach this, not just Christianity. Yet, many countries have the death penalty and they have entered wars. Jesus also said if you lust after someone to take your eye out and cast it into the fire. But I don't think you will see anyone doing that.

He additionally taught violence could be mandatory while clearing the temple... He additionally taught that we are all concern to rules and their accompanying punishments/rewards. If a lawful government says "bypass to war," then off to war we bypass. If a lawful government says "homicide and you would be killed," then i could recommend you stay away from committing homicide. He additionally taught there are issues nicely worth combating and loss of life over. after all, he died for each individuals and he fought against devil. He additionally taught that people who injury any of God's infants could be greater helpful off in the event that they had in no way been born. ask your self what he somewhat meant by way of that one.... He additionally taught that diverting duty faraway from the doer isn't love, that being waiting to flee the rewards of our movements isn't area of His plan, that some acts are so heinous there is not any wish of redemption. a selection of of this could look contradictory, yet there are various varieties of wars, many varieties of loss of life, and an excellent type of varieties of individuals. in case you think that war isn't nicely matched with Christianity, then check in as a conscientious objector. in case you think that the loss of life penalty is incompatible with Christianity, paintings interior your close by community and state to abolish it by way of criminal and bonafide channels. save in mind that very final judgment is God's purview, no longer ours. enable people who carry perspectives different out of your very own to embody those perspectives. stay your existence up on your very own ideals and standards, no longer those of others. i think God is the only one that somewhat is conscious of what's in our coronary heart and ideas and due to this He reserves very final judgment for Himself. Now, for a different slant - all of us stay below a loss of life penalty. None individuals are starting to be to be out of this alive. So loss of life is somewhat in basic terms a transition to a different life. some individuals are going to be happy with that next step. some individuals are unlikely to like it.
