why doesn't anyone complain about the lack of proper expression? The answer could as easily be 10.5 as it could be 5.

Or, in an extreme reach, the expression is "False", as 12 times ("x") -6 is not equal to 54.

Or, we could be calculating in base 8, leading to several other answers, all correct for different interpretations of how the question is written!
