I just gave you a couple of stars by the way, its always a pleasure to talk to another Mets fan. With regards to that, things don't look good. I just read on MLB.com that Omar is being laughed at and joked around about at the Winter Meetings. He offered Heilman, Gomez, and Humber for Erik Bedard yesterday and was laughed at. Nobody at the meetings seems to take our prospects seriously. If that is truly the case, we should sign Carlos Silva so that we have at least one decent pitcher, and then all we can do is promote Pelfrey and Humber to pitch all next season. I hope that isn't the case, but it sounds like it could be. I still think we can win the pennant next year, but the competition from the Phillies and Cubs will be tough.

The Mets aren't World Series bound next year. If they get a big pitcher, that may change. Let us not forget that getting Dan Haren (who formerly went by Danny) started the All Star game, and just happens to play for the most shrewd (and in my opinion one of the shadiest) GM's in baseball. The prospects are there, but you'd have to part with quite a few to get him. Same with Bedard and Santana. I don't know why people are aiming so high. High payroll teams like the Yankees, Red Sox, and Mets can just sign these guys as free agents in a season or two and hold on to their young guys. Mind boggling.

The Mets could really use to solid pitchers...Haren would be a great choice for them and signing Carlos Silva would help as well, if they could swing Bedrad that would be great but the orioles want a kings ransome for the guy; I do not see how they would have the prospects to get both Haren and Bedrad. I do not htink they need that big Name pitcher as you are saying but they do need solid pitchers. They have some youth but that does ont always cut it. They are rumored to be reuniting the Hernandez brothers as well, so there is an innings eater in Livan but not a great pitcher.

I could narrow that list down to Jon Lester, Volquez, and Scherzer. But that's only from the numbers they have put up this year. Volquez is putting up CY Young type numbers, sporting a record of 7-1 with an ERA of 1.33 and striking out 62 batters in 54.1. This guy is right there, if he can stay healthy and keep putting up these amazing numbers, he's gonna be great, in fact, he already is great. Jon Lester, all I gotta say is that the guy is only 24 years old, and has already been called up to the big leagues, AND thrown a no-hitter. Not many players can throw a no-hitter, but a guy new to the league, and not very experienced throwing one is very impressive. Next in line is Max Scherzer. Even though he has a record of 0-2, he has a 2.33 ERA. He has struck out 23 batters in 19.1 innings, as well as only walking 7. He has a bright future, and I hope he continues to pitch well.

YES the Mets will make the playoffs , NO they will not win the World Seris or even get to it.

I have been told that they are in negotiations with David Wells on a one year deal. I could see this deal happening easily. The Mets are a team that could be great, but aren't going to be b/c they don't have a good GM. I think as of right now, the Mets should go after Wells and Hernandez.

How is Haren an injury risk?

He's made 34 starts in each of the last 3 seasons - and pitched at least 217 innings in those 3.

The Mets definitely need some pitching help and Haren would be an excellent addition their staff.

Mets need a pitcher, maybe two. Bedard is a better choice than Haren. Haren is an injury risk and gives up too many long balls.

In answer to your two questions --- sorry, but NO and NO.

You're not getting Haren. Minaya traded Milledge to the Nationals and they A's have wanted that guys for years.
