Because without the ADs you'd be paying $10 a copy for the paper.

We pay the newspaper to cover the cost of printing the newspaper. The advertisements covers the costs of writing the newspaper, then (as our country works) there is some left over for profit.

If you do not want to read through advertisements, then you will end up paying $35 for a newspaper that is about 6 pages long.

I bought a Sunday paper once (I normally just stick with the 50 cent daily), and sorted through all the crap. What I ended up with was a paper the size of a week day paper. I paid an extra dollar for the stinkin' ads.

Newspapers need to raise funds someway. I agree and magazines are far worse when it comes to ads and pushing products. I get the newspaper and it's not too bad. I actually tend not to look at the ads. Most of them don't apply to me. I would never pay to attend a new car show. Please. I did pay to attend a bridal show. That doesn't make sense either except that it did save me some time and money by having everyone in one place.

Economics.

The purchase price of the newspaper pays for the paper, printing and distribution. Actually having anything to print on that paper is paid for by advertising.

Go to your economics textbook for the answer to this question. It is simply supply vs demand. Also could be humans are creatures of habit. If someone is willing to place and ad in a paper and pay for it, the public demand constitutes the paper being able to charge the advertisers and those who wish to read it.

You don't have to pay for it if you really don't want to. You can read it online. Some people prefer to read a hard copy, and they disregard the ads to read the news they want. That's how the papers get printed, you know. Paid advertising pays reporters' salaries so you can get news at all.

don't buy the newspaper. if you paid the whole cost fo producing it, it would cost a lot more. try subscribing to newspapers that don't take advertisements. there are many.
