My partner has just gone self employed and he's gone away to work on a new resturant opening in London. He's a joiner, most of the people on site are in the same situation. They are not paying up. Is there any legal way around this. Only we've got a motage and a kid, they dont pay for themselves. What do we do?v please help

If you have issued your client with an invoice and they are slow to pay up, you can write another letter asking them to pay, and if they do not pay within a certain number of days, you will be sending a copy of the invoice and a copy of this letter to the tax authorities.

Your client should always provide you with an agreement in writing and a tax registration number, which you should quote on your invoice under their name and address information, and you should also quote your own tax registration number under your own name and address on the invoice.

As most people would do pretty much anything to avoid the hassle of a tax audit, I imagine you'll have your money pretty quickly.

Many years ago when self employed my mate and I built a front wall and did not get paid. After many requests we went round and took our wall away much to the mans disgust, but we did not get mucked about again.
