"I'm going to be honest with you, I don't know a lot about Cuba's health care system. Is it a government-run system?"

- Sen. John Edwards, would-be president

cvq3842 and speckofdust, here are a couple of links:

Interestingly, now that Edwards has learned the answer to his query, he thinks Cuba's health care system is a good idea, and that Castro needs his help to propagandize:

Rotorhead, I couldn't agree more.

Don C., I don't know who you mean by "your guys," but if you mean Republicans (not "my guys"), it is true that both sides misspeak sometimes. But this one sticks out for two reasons:

1) Although ABC picked it up, none of the other networks bothered to report it. Had Bush made such a gaffe, it would have been on the front page of the NYT. Remember the flack he took for not knowing who the prime minister of Pakistan was in 1999? The front-page headline on the Washington Post was "Bush Fails Quiz on Foreign Affairs."

2) Health care is one of the cornerstones of Edwards' campaign. He has been telling us that we need to emulate other countries with government-run health care systems as though he knew something about them. Well, here is one in his back yard, and he admits knowing nothing about it.

How can he claim to want to model his health care system after those of other socialist systems without knowing the first thing about them?

Ricky T, I agree completely.

Joe H., see my comment #2 above. I think the Cuban system is very relevant, especially given that he is not touting the Cuban system as a model for ours.

I would also hope that he at least knows as much as I do about the Cuban system, if he is planning to emulate it. Same goes for the UK, since it is also being held up as a model for ours. Honduras and Jamaica are spurious examples.

Debra H, thanks for the rant. Care to answer the question?

Joe H, typo correction:

Meant to say "now touting," not "not touting."

Sorry.

NO President, regardless of how educated or qualified they may be, should run our health care system. And neither should Congress!

To socialize our health care system would be a horrible mistake, one that would be very hard to undo.

No. But anyone who thinks government should run health care is also unqualified to be president.

They don't understand the capitalist system that made our country great.

Hmmm. Is it really relevant? What do you know about the Cuban Health Care system? The one in Jamaica? Honduras? How about the UK?

I also have a peeve...people do no longer answer my questions...make their very own. i replace into tempted to try this right here. Yours first. No, i do no longer have faith the government to run the completed well-being care gadget...the products it controls now has uncontrolled spending that takes up 0.5 the federal taxes now. no longer purely that, the individuals lined (destructive and elderly) do no longer likely like the coverage they have. Now, a distinctive handle this could be whether or no longer the government ought to rigidity healthy, youthful, in a position bodied people to purchase clinical well-being coverage while that they had particularly gamble on good well-being (normally a great wager) and use their money in a distinctive way. that's their physique and that's their money.

Do you know when this was said? Do you have a link? Thanks.
