My brother in law is having a paternity test done. My husband and I are having the results e-mailed to us, so we will be the first to know. How do we tell him if it comes back that he is NOT the father? He is going to flip out.....

No way to soften that blow. Just tell him the truth but I might suggest you have him over without his wife/girlfriend if it isn't his. At least you will be better able to keep him from doing something that way. Good Luck!

Well he's getting a test done so apparently he is aware that it could be a yes he is and a no he isnt. Either way I would assume that he is prepared for both outcomes. The only thing you can do is to be there for him, for whatever he needs you for. Just because he isnt the biological father doesnt make him any less of the role he has played in the childs life. It takes a real man to step up and accept his responsibility,I hope all goes well, and the results come out that he is, but if not like i said just be there for him, to talk and support him.

You have to tell him in person. thats the best way, if hes not that father it may be an uncomfortable situation but the best thing to do is just come out and tell him. If hes not the father then he and the mother of the child will have to work it out. yea it might cause some problems im not going to lie. but its the best thing. If he flipps out and gets angry or whatever just tell him that it changes nothing. Tell him that he took the test to find out the truth, and so your giving it to him straight and if hes not the father it shouldnt change the way he treats and cares for the child.

Good luck Hope everything works out for the best !

This is a VERY personal, and potentially LEGAL issue.

I strongly suggest that you tell your brother-in-law that you don't want anything to do with it. HE needs to be the first to know, and to know what he will do with the information.

Please stay OUT of his business on this one, even if he wants your assistance (or says so now...).

He needs to resolve this little issue all alone.

I think when you get the e-mail you shouldn't even open it.
As soon as you get it let him know you got it and just be there when he does open it, and if it turns out that hes not the father then you will be there for support.

Let your brother in law handle it, but be there to offer your support and understanding. These issues are painful, and family is a great source of strengh.

If that is what you all agreed upon then you just simply read it to him. That is all. Don't spin it or try to put it in a better light. The truth is the truth. Just be the messenger if that is the way he wants it.

There is no easy way to tell him. Just keep sharp objects and guns away from him. Good luck hun.
