With the Tigers now acquiring superstars Miguel Cabrera & Dontrelle Willis, adding on to a strong roster with players like Sheffield, Verlander, Ordonez, Bonderman, etc. Do they now have the inside shot as the AL rep in the WS in 08? Or does Boston resolidify their stature as the AL kings with a deal for Santana?

Its way too early to tell right now. When we start to see how Cabrera and Willis fit into the Tigers, and see if the Red Sox get Santana (and how well he plays, if they do get him!) then we can all make a little more educated guess as to whether or not its likely the Red Sox and the Tigers will be in the 08 ALCS.

I doubt it that these two teams will face each other in the ALCS, because you just can't assume that they will be playing each other just beacuse the Tigers have Miguel Cabrera and D-Train, and the Red Sox have Beckett and possibly Santana, remember a team wins when all their players work together, not just two or three. Who would have ever thought the Rockies would make it to the world Series, or who thought that the Cardinals would win the World Series in 06 with their 83-78 record. Baseball is a very unpredictable game, who knows 08 maybe the year when the Royals turn it around. There is no guessing in baseball. Remember a game is not over until the last out of the final inning is called. Exp., take a look at the White Sox vs. Angels in Game 2 of the ALCS in 05, the Angels had the White Sox on the ropes, but that one out turned the game around and send the White Sox to the World Series.

All I'm saying is that it is TOO early to tell who will be in the ALCS.

Dontrelle Willis and his ERA last year was not much better than Cliff Lee and Lee was sent to the minors. Willis proved more than hittable and is now in the AL. I imagine a rejuvenated Travis Hafner and a healthy Jim Thome could really munch on a 5+ ERA. Cabrera is not as good as Arod yet the Yankees failed to advance to the ALCS in 2007 so how is it that people are just handing the Tigers the ring in 2008? Wishful thinking for Tigs fans apparently.

Even through it is to early to know for sure, but I would say Detriot Tigers all the way, the Boston Red Sox have already won the ALCS twice, and they won the World Series twice in a span of 3 years, and it is time for somebody else to have a turn. And if you notice, that every year, the dending World Series champions, fail to defend thier crown, and a new team is crowed.

The Tigers are equal or better offensively but the Red Sox have the better pitching, and it will be even better if they get Santana. With that being said, the objective is to get to the playoffs, something the Tigers were not able to do in 2007, and these recent moves should get them there in 2008. Once in the playoffs anything can happen. The Tigers are now diffidently one of the four or five elite teams in MLB.

As of RIGHT now, I would say that, yeah, these are easily the best teams in the AL, but there is a lot of dealing/ free agents/ injuries, etc. to happen, so things cold change. All of a sudden Detroit is absolutely STACKED! I'd say they are the team to beat if the season starts today. Renteria, Cabrera, Will, and Jacque Jones... that's a nice early off-season haul! they are definitely goin for it, cause their minor leagues are starting to look a little depleated...

you guys are all right
Willis DIDNT WIN 22GAMES IN the marlins organization

stfu almost every team wanted willis and cabrera besides like boston or ny
willis is good and all ya haters will see in 08

I am a tigers fan and i am not crowning them anything at all
Whenever a team gets crowned or handed a championship b4 a season starts bad things happen.
I thought tigers have ws last year locked with sheffield but look at me
Boston is still a great team but tigers arent worried bout them remember det sweept them last year Twice?? (Not saying boston is bad)

Overall with leyland as manager tigers have a very good shot of meeting boston in the ALCS or as i shud say the real WS

Hey dude (BRAVESFAN) the Sox don't need Santana to contest with Detroit, the Sox are defending World Series champs, with the rookie of the year, the runner up in the Cy Young, and probably the best pitching staff in the Majors, so we don't need santana (although we'll probably get him) to beat the Tigers, the Tigers will be lucky to contest with the Sox even with there new deal, oh yeah and news flash the Tigers didn't even get to the playoffs last season, so think before you write something like that.

Since when did Dontrelle Willis and his 5+ ERA become a superstar? Seriously, he's been league average or below the past two seasons. Same with Bonderman, who had an almost-as-bad ERA last season, and who only once has kept it under 4.50.

I think people are giving them way too much credit at this point. They're a very good team, but by no means have they become the favorite, even for their own division.
