Yes, I do go shopping alone. I'm not afraid to go alone, but it makes shopping so boring. If you lived by me I would love to go with you.

I have to shop alone because I am by myself now. I hate it because I am constantly looking out for the 'wrong type', and believe me, in Plymouth we have plenty of them! I now do the majority of my shopping on-line so it is delivered to my door, but there are times I have to go in to the city. I wear a coat with several pockets so that my purse is in the inside pocket, my keys are somewhere else and I NEVER carry my debit card with me. Luckily I have a bank very near to my home so I go there if I need to withdraw any money. I used to love going Christmas shopping, but not any more. I think as my disabilities have worsened I have become more frightened. It is an absolute disgrace that so many of us live in fear like this, but the police are never around when you need them. We never see a policeman on the beat in the city centre unless the football team have a home game. This country is an absolute disgrace!

I am single, also, but I would still prefer shopping alone. Sometimes I like to cruise around and just look and sometimes I have a definite agenda and put the blinders on a "Get 'er done!"

When I'm shopping with someone else, the either slow me down when I'm in a hurry or drag me along when I want to window shop.

Feliz Navidad.

Yes, I love to shop alone. I know I can look as long as I want or come home shortly after starting out. My town sounds safer than yours, but I still only shop in the earlier part of the day. And, I have bought a purse that has a strap that crisscrosses over my shoulder. It is to help me not let it slide down my coat sleeves as well as someone taking it from me.

I do but rarely at night. I'm also very cautious. I try to park in a well lit spot, I'll wait at door until there are other people going in my direction or I'll ask clerk for ride from security if I'm uneasy. I also don't use remote to unlock my car door until I've checked to be sure both sides are clear. We've recently had cases where someone hides beside or at back of car. When door is unlocked by remote they will quickly open and enter on passenger side.

Honey, I never worry about any of that. I am never afraid either inside or outside of my
home.
When I was working, I carried extra money and change to give a few $$$ to who needed it and change for someone to ride the bus.
If anyone grabbed my purse,
so what, there's nothing in it.
All I ever carry is my credit
card and bus change and both are very well hidden on
my body.

I'm glad I read this! I never thought about someone getting in on the passenger side of your car when you unlock with the remote. I have a new car, and the remote only unlocks the driver's side; you have to double click to open the other doors. I had been very aggravated by this; now I see it as a safety feature!

I don't LIKE to go shopping at all anymore! The price of things just seems totally ridiculous to me, and there just isn't anything I need that badly! I of course have to go grocery shopping, but I only go when I have to. We buy in bulk so everything is stocked full most of the time... thank God!

You wouldn't want to know what I carry with me when I do shop! No prisoners! There by the grace of God go I...

I live in a Chicago suburb and still feel reasonably safe shopping alone here.
Sometimes I wish we could turn back time and not even bother to lock our doors, day or night. Leave the kids toys outside and we never thought of locking the car doors. Wasn't it nice.
