Unless he attempts to influence behavior by using supposed "residual agent" authority that he may claim to have, the best course of action for all such claims is to simply log them under the "maybe" file.
I'd also double-check anything he says regarding the "law" against reliable sources.
If he WAS an agent, he will NOT tell you something like "I shouldn't be saying this but...." because a real agent would know that when he shouldn't be saying something, he really SHOULDN'T.

Why would you believe that?
But if you want to challenge him, ask him to bring in his "shadow box" with his cancelled credentials and badge. Usually, when someone leaves federal law enforcement, they are allowed to keep cancelled credentials and sometimes their (cancelled) badge as mementos.
Or ask him a lot of questions about going through Quantico and what SAiC offices he was assigned to. Usually the lies become too complex to maintain. Finally, ask what kind of cases he worked. He may not be able to give you actual cases under FBI jurisdiction (Federal jurisdiction for cases is split amongst a number of agencies, such as immigration cases with ICE, drug cases primarily with DEA, fugitives, usually U.S. marshals, gun cases with ATF, etc.)

Why did he say it? He may be telling the truth. FBI agents do quit or retire or get fired. He might have decided that teaching was more fun or more rewarding.

Are you serious ?
A teacher can come from any background.
You could experiment though, check his reaction times,
check his awareness of geo-politics, look for suits that have space for a weapon. See if he can spell FBI, you know ... all the sensible tests.
Have fun.

Search for some 'hi-tech' information about FBI agents and ask him about that.

Nahh. He might be...
But if he's throwing his weight around and hassling students, then it doesn't matter what he claims. It'd be worth a specific complaint.

You could do a background check on him, If he's lying about being an F.B.I. agent he may also be lying about having a teaching degree.
