It depends if your they type of person who wants to belong. Everyone is just some are more close knit and have more traditions than others. I'm 3 different races but i swing more to my spanish side seeing is i speak the language and have the last name and majority of the family i grew up around are spanish. Personally it wouldn't bother me if I didn't belong to an ethnic group... it just gives people a reason to hate on each other and be separate rather then bring people together, and love one another. example of that is my boyfriend. he's indian(india) and his parents dislike me because i'm not indian, but it's just what ever you know? we're all the same just its culture that seperates us. i love him because who he is not what he is.

You belong to an ethnic group whether you want to or not. I don't really understand the question. I don't know what you infer when you talk about the "importance" of belonging to an ethnic group...it's innate. I consider myself an American because that's the country that's given me all of my opportunities in life, and it's the country I'm loyal to. My ancestors lived in Ireland though...and that also makes me of Irish descent. But the ethnic group I belong to is Caucasian.

The only group it's important to belong to is the human race

Ethnic grouping is what starts all the problems. No, we are all children under God and we need to all become a race together ... let's call it the HUMAN RACE!

you mean like an organization based on your ethnicity?
yes, i do. i think it keeps you close to your culture and who you are. im in the PNA, polish national alliance, because my parents are from poland, and i love that it keeps me so close to who i am and the country that in some weird way, i see as being a second home to me.

that being said, you shouldnt get too caught up in ethnic groups, because life is all about meeting all kinds of people and experiencing all kinds of things.

It is more important to be a contributing member of the human race. Help all people no matter what their ethnicity.

everyone belongs to one.

i dont really care about it because its not the race/ ethnic factor for one to become friends. it is still the 'heart' factor.

Ethnic groups are sorta stupid in America. They are breeding grounds for racism. Why wont people realize that American is a race, and shed all the stupidity.

I think that if you are part of a small group in a town, you would find that comforting, but i don't see it as necessary in the larger communities.
