if you mean what is y, do this
distribute the -6 in to get 2-6y-24=2y-30
then get like terms on each side to get 8=8y
then divide by 8, to get y=1

First use the distributive property.

-6 times y and -6 times 4 and you have:

2-6y-24=2y-30

add like terms (numbers with variables added to numbers with variables and numbers without variables added to numbers without variables).

2 plus -24

So far:

-6y-22=2y-30

get these like terms on one side (variables on one side, non-variables on the other).

22 added to -30 = -8

So:

-6y=2y-8

Now, the y's need to be put together:

-8y= -8

Divide:

y = 1

There you go.

You can't find the x because there isn't a x in the problem, unlss you forgot to put it in the problem, or you're actually asking for the y.
