One of my friends mentioned at the weekend that she never talks to her dog,......!! I thought how sad.

I always talk to my cat, and I think in his own way (!!??) he appreciates it.

What do you think?

I talk to me animals all the time. I talk to them like I talk to people. I talk to them like they can understand me, even though I know they can't understand me. I even talk to me bettas like they can understand me. And I ask them questions. But they never answer :)

And that reminds me that I have to feed my guinea pigs.

Animals are smarter than we give them credit for. Even if they can't understand what we're saying, I really think they understand how we're saying something and what we're trying to communicate. It's a good thing to talk to the animal. But I guess not talking to it doesn't necessarily mean it has a bad life.

Animals are very aware of our body language and tones of voice, so yes, I do talk to my cats and dog all the time. I have to agree with you on believing that they do appreciate and enjoy it based on how they, in turn, respond to my voice by cuddling in or meowing sweetly back to me. It's a wonderful bonding experience!

I always talk to my pets. Not only have they picked up on certain words and phrases (they know what I mean by 'out' or 'outside', 'food', 'off', 'move', 'go for a ride', 'treat'), they know their names and even when I'm talking on the phone if I say their names they look or come over to see if I'm talking to them.

I also talk to my friends' and neighbors' pets when I see them.

I talk to my cat and my dog all the time. I think they get something out of it, even if it's just enjoying the sound of your voice.

I love talking with my cats. I bet your friend does talk with her dog she just doesn't realize it. I know a couple pet owners who say they don't and then I always catch them baby talkin to them or playin with them. Its cute and animals know what you mean and what you say, maybe not literally but in some way they know.

Yes, of course. Animals like to be included in our routines, and talking to them is an excellent way to form a bond of love and trust.
