I've been looking for an American cream draft, so i was browsing on dreamhorse, however couldn't find one for sale, anywhere i could get one help?
Right main question, i was on dreamhorse and i noticed that they sell zebras, so i had a look and there was a picture of someone riding the zebra, but i just doesn't seem normal to me. I know horses came from the wild and we ride them, but zebras! i don't know its a bit bizzare. Does anyone have a zebra? I can see the novelty of riding a zebra, but why would you really? what do you guys think, would you wouldn't you and why?
Or just comment on the subject.
Myself i'd never want to ride or own a zebra, i guess i never really thought about it though...thanks!
Oh heres the advert i saw, sorry if its some one on here and there zebra, no offence meant: http://content.answers.com/main/content/wp/en/thumb/1/18/300px-Mars_celebrations.jpg

LOL! Isn't amazing that people can't comprehend the meaning of your simple question...lol.
I don't know about riding a zebra. I think it it would be like riding a donkey personally...I've seen some pictures of zorses...I personally think they look pretty cool. But I wouldn't buy one...anyways, back to the origional question...I would want to ride a zebra...just to say I have.
did you decide not to get a fjord after all?

Doesn't the asker of this question and the people who have answered so far know that zebras are one of the world's most threatened animals? They are WILD animals, NOT HORSES, and they were never meant to be ridden !!! Plus, most zebras, even those born in captivity, have viscious tempers which can make them dangerous to handle and work around, let alone try to ride.
Zebras face many threats today- habitat destruction, climate change which causes the grasslands and waterholes they depend on to dry up, poaching ( there is a big demand for zebra meat and hooves in some parts of Africa these days, because the hooves are considered to be aphrodisiacs by some of the native peoples in the area) and illegal capture and transport to zoos and circuses. Zebras are not pets, not playthings, and should not be treated as such. They deserve to live out their lives in peace in their native lands, not be subjected to the whims of human nature or fashion.
If you want to ride something, get a horse of your own, but leave the zebras in peace. They have enough trouble just trying to survive right now, without people having the notion that they would make great riding animals. Enough said.

Apparently you can tame zebras to ride, but it takes a long time.
Think about it; horses have been domesticated and bred for domestic traits for hundreds of years, but zebras wont have have had that same history, so they wouldnt submit to being broken in so easily.
Also, I think they have much more prominent spines, making it a less comfortable ride than a horse, a probably harder for the zebra as well.
Nevertheless, people do ride them, and as fads go, its been around for a while (there are pictures of Victorians riding zebras).
If the zebra was from a bloodline that had been continually kept in capitivity and bred for riding, I wouldnt mind riding one.
It'd be cool to own one, though keeping it properly would be tricky. You'd prob need really big fields and several other to keep it company.
They might work better for driving; we've domesticated animals for pulling with a lot more success, and it would require less domestication.
Now a zebra drawn cart would be cool...

My dad's friend has a Zebra (along with a camel, ostrich, peacocks, and many other exotic animals) and he rides him.
I peronally think you shouldn't. Zebra's aren't meant to be ridden and you could cause back and joint problems because they aren't meant to carry weight. The guy I know who owns a Zebra only rides bareback like once a week, but still.
My friends parent's are both equine vets, and they had a zebra come into the clinic from a sanctuary, and the owners said they couldn't afford as many animals as they had (they were donating them to zoos) and my friends bought the 23 year old Zebra. They didn't ride him, they just had him as a pet.
I think a Zorse would be okay to ride, because they are half horse. I still personally wouldn't...
I think it would be very cool to own one, but not ride it.
*When I said 'you' I didn't mean actually you. =]
Just found this add.

Zorses may be more trainable but if you did have a zebra, don't board it at a fancy equestrian centre, im sure you would get made fun of! :P. Zebra foals (or what ever they call their babies) are really cute!

Zebras aren't striped horses. They're wild animals. You can tame one with a lot of effort but it's still a tamed, wild animal not a tamed, domesticate animal like a horse.
You'd be better off with a zorse or zedonk.

It's a zebra crossed with a horse, not an actual zebra, although people ride those, too. I'm going to be getting one in a few years - I think they are awesome. :)

I wouldn't ride on a zebra because zebras are not for riding, horses are. You don't hear people saying, do you want to zebra back riding. People ask if you want to go horse back riding. That just wouldn't seem normal to see someone straddling a zebra.

I would think a zebra would be very difficult and spooky. Like a Mustang times a billion.
Have you looked at draftsforsale.com? Great site for finding the big guys. I love to torture myself on there. So many pretty drafts. Sigh...

Here is an interesting, little known fact:
The US cavalry experimented with zebra/horse hybrids in the attempt to increase their cavalry's endurance.
This was abandoned in short order, based on the resulting offspring's tendency to inherit their zebra parents' difficult nature,
