I know what you mean. Last year I was in the same situation because all of my family went away for the holidays. So I just made the most of it. I sent out about 30 dinner invitations to friends and co-workers. Only three people were able to come, but we had a wonderful meal and tons of fun! It was a great bonding experience. I will always cherish the memory of that day as something truly special.
Remember, even though it feels like you're the only one, there are lots of other people in the same situation. Why not make the most of it? You'll be helping them - they'll be helping you, and if nobody shows, you can always do holiday volunteer work. Who knows, you may even meet your soul mate, someone who is just as wonderful and generous (and alone) as you are!
Good luck and Merry Christmas!

You could ask someone out to a movie(make sure they know that you haven't got any plans for christmas and you were wondering if maybe they would want to catch a movie some time during the day with you), go to a friends or maybe if you have any family around your area you could go to their house. If you feel uncomfortable going to a friend or family's house just bring a good present and you will feel better. If none of those will work then maybe you could go and buy yourself a pet, like a puppy. They are extremely comforting and they can be the best friend in the world.

See if there are people in similar situations, at work or church, and see if all of you can have a pot luck Christmas Dinner. Everyone bring a dish, put on some music or a DVD and enjoy. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas!

I'm sorry to hear you spent a xmas on your own. As you haven't given more details about yourself or your family and friends, I can't suggest much, except why don't you invite people to come to you? People may be hoping you do just that. Hope your xmas is better this year. X

Not sure of your family situation but maybe volunteering at a soup kitchen or church or something would give you something to do that will also help others and make you feel good about it.

if you think you will spend it on your own and dont want to, why not volunteer that day? give xmas dinner to the homeless - there's always someone worse off than you.

Hang out with a bunch of single people getting drunk, and hopefully, one of the single persons will be yours for the next season.

You could do some voluntary work- now if that isn't the true meaning/spirit of Christmas- nothing is.
