It then continues to scan but never seems to find any further threats. Recently I have taken to cancelling the scan and deleting the threats when they have been located. Does anyone have any comments? Is there any point in continuing the scan?

What is most likely happening is that it's detecting your cookies. Some classify these as a threat; however that's a very general classification. SOME websites do indeed use cookies to keep track of what you view on their site so they can serve you personalized advertising. It would detect anywhere from a few to a couple dozen to even a couple hundred cookies VERY quickly because they are all located in one folder on your hard drive, so when it starts scanning that folder it'll say HA! I SEE LOTS OF "THREATS"! It's your choice to delete or not delete your cookies, but you should not be worried about them.

Usually virus scanners scan in chronological order. The files that hold the soyware information start with the oldest ones out there. As new ones appears, they are often appended to the end of the definition files. If you are stopping the scan before it completes, you may never be reaching the place where it is scanning for the newest of the spyware.

What you are doing is not very smart. You always need to allow the complete scan of your system, before you delete or follow the instructions given on how to destroy the spyware. The scan, has to run through your memory, registry, files and folders. When you stop you are not allow the scan to complete it's task. Take your time and allow the complete scan then delete what is found.

i have adware alert,and i find it scans and finds what its looking for in the first 2 mins,i also stop the scan,but i make sure i run a full scan at least once a day

Its better to let it finish scanning as some nasties maybe still on your computer, run another antispyware program to be sure
