He plays amazing defense. But, as an entire player....is he overrated?

Couldn't hit his way out of a wet paper bag this year.

Coco Crisp has made some of the best catches I have ever seen, and for that reason alone he is not overrated. In fact, I think he gets a raw deal. He hits adequately, is inexpensive and makes the catches that are momentum changing.

No, he isn't overrated.

Right now he is getting hype during the trade. He's a bit above mediocre but the Sox can do better, they aren't a mediocre team.

He's not a very good hitter, (may be batting gloves would help?)he can be quick around the bases. But if you can't get on, you can't run them. He plays great defence but Jacoby who is younger with a long career ahead of him is better overall. Since he can hit, run the bases and make great catches on defence.

Jacoby is the man.

I really hope the Sox do what's right in this trade. Giving up prospects that have proven themselves is a mistake.

I rate him as an average major league player that has excellent range as an outfielder, decent speed, but not much of a threat as a hitter. I've been watching the guy for a while and he is not really good enough to to be overrated. Just another player, maybe like a 3rd or 4th outfielder.

He is not a 30 home run guy, he is never going to be that. He is a speed guy that plays fabulous defense and gives you some speed on the paths, his OnBase Percentage was down this year but he is still not a chump, he gives the Sox what they were looking for!

sorry but as a Cleveland fan I do not regret trading Coco Crisp. At first it bummed me out but I recovered quickly - the medicine that got Indians fans over that slight feeling of nausea was an instant healer called Grady Sizemore. I liked Crisp but I love Sizemore. I know the Cleveland fan said he'd take him back in 3 seconds but ask yourself this question honestly:
who would you rather see playing CF at the Jake:
Coco Crisp
Grady Sizemore

Not even a debate.

Not overrated. Golden Glove caliber defensive center fielder.

He's paid appropriate to his contribution. He makes something like $3M with the Red Sox, which for baseball players in a big market team - chump change. Agree that he couldn't hit his way out of wet paper bag.

I believe most have him identified properly as a light hitting good outfielder with speed.

i'll say this he can move in the outfield really good out there, but can't hit he's a terrible hitter. i would say he's not overrated he's not really rated to me, he's just an average player.

When he played here in Cleveland, a local sportscaster called him the slowest fast guy in the league.
That suited him well. Someone who batted first or second and couldn't run the bases worth a crap.
