an honest desire to be a benefit to humanity

a real need to have money and prestige

a lack of desire to be a "family man" or the inability to commit to a life long relationship.

as many doctors as there are, there are also reasons for being what they are. all unique.

i can't think of any reason really....ask a few for some good ones....i work with a lot of doctors....a few are happy with their chosen profession, but a lot would have done things differently. times have changed and medicine isn't what it used to be. you pay a small fortune in time and money for your eduction then have no life to speak of afterward. there are few rewards unless you are purely an egomaniac and academic and that's what you're after. but if you want quality of life and family, then the life of a doctor may not be for you.

I believe it is a "CALLING", at least it was for me. I was ALWAYS a doctor, I "became" one socially speaking after the schooling, but I was BORN a doctor.
