My pediatrician told me to give my 8 week old apple prune juice undiluted, in between feeding, but my son then does not want to take his bottle of formula! Can I put the juice in the formula? Has anyone done this? How much and does it affect the nutrition of the formula? I asked my ped, if I could put it in the bottle and he said no, becuase it may make it taste bad, but what is the difference when some people add Karo syrup to bottles! Help!

I've heard of people putting the prune juice in the formula...it doesn't do anything to the nutritional value of it...

I would make sure you do it one bottle at a time (not in a big batch) because it may affect the stability of the formula...but that's the only thing I can't think of as far as any effects.

And frankly...have you tasted formula?? It tastes pretty damn crappy already...I think the prune juice could only improve it.

Give it a try...the worst that could happen is the baby hates it and wont' take the bottle...

Good Luck!

Prune Juice In Baby Formula

Many doctors say not to use Karo because it can cause botulism. And adding the syrup to the bottle is basically just like adding a lot of sugar to it to help them have a bowel movement. If you put prune juice in the formula and make it taste bad he may decide not to drink either one. You didn't say how much juice your giving him, so maybe you are giving him too much, or maybe you need to wait a while longer before offering the formula after the juice.

I still to this day add around 2 ounce of prune to a 7 ounce bottle from time to time. My son can't tell the diffrence and likes it much better than drinking it mixed with apple juice.

OMG I can't beleive a paediatrician told you to do that! If your baby is constipated and is only 8 weeks old then the general advice is just to offer a little cooled, boiled water in between feeds. I'm not a paediatrician but I am really surprised at that.

Putting fruit juice in the formula will make it curdled and sour, and could make your baby sick.

Just try to get him to take some cooled boiled water and see if that helps. If you really REALLY have to try the prune juice, put it in the boiled water. But I would be wary of that. An 8 weeks old's digestive system is very immature and prune juice could really upset your baby's stomach.

Gross. No, it might make the formula curdle. I gave my son 1 oz prune juice to 1 oz warm water and he had no problem with drinking his bottles.
Don't give Karp Syrup. There have been reports of babies getting botulism, just like giving them honey. I saw an article about this last year in Parent's Magazine.

What in the world would he be saying to give your 8 WK OLD prune juice?? That will cause your baby to have severe diarrhea. If your baby is constipated then try giving the baby some water first before adding anything like that.

Try giving just an ounce or so in between feedings...a little goes a long way...I wouldn't add it to the formula...
