In my science lesson today we were weighing ourselfs in newtons, now we need to convert it to stones. Does anyone no the calculation to do this ? Thanks

Most people may not be familiar with this, but stones are a unit of weight and mass.

Newtons = kilograms * 9.80
kilograms = Newtons/9.80

1 stone = 6.35029318 kilograms

stones = (Newtons/9.80) * 1 stone/6.35029318 kg

*** Here are the steps for converting the units:

1) Divide your weight in Newtons by 9.8, and you will get a new number.

2) Divide this new number by 6.35029318.

3) What you have now is your weight in stones.

Generally you wouldn't convert between these units because Stones are a measurement of Mass and Newtons are really a measurement of force, but anyway

62 N is about 1 Stone

There are about 6.35 kg per stone, but any conversion between kg (mass) and stones (weight) must depend on local gravity, which I have taken to be 9.8 N/kg.

But converting Newtons to stones is no problem as they are both units of force.
So there are 9.8 * 6.35 = 62.23 N / stone

So to convert N to Stones, divide by 62.23

Start with:
F = mg

Your force in Newtons = mass * acceleration due to gravity.

g = 9.80665 m/s²

So your mass in kilograms will be:

m = F/9.80665

But then you want your weight in pounds: There are 0.454 kg in a lb, so divide by 0.454.

m = F/9.80665 / 0.454

Finally you want to divide that by 14, because there are 14 pounds in a stone:

m = F/9.80665 / 0.454 / 14

But we can group that all together as:
m = F / (9.80665 * 0.454 * 14)
m ≈ F / 62.331

So take the measurement in newtons, and divide by 62.331 and you'll have your weight in stone.
