We rent our apartment and something clogged the toilet and NOTHING is working. I mean NOTHING. We've tried hot water, dish soap, a high-quality plunger and even liquid plumber as a last resort. Will we just have to call our landlord/maintenance guy to have it fixed? Is it their responsibility to get it fixed? Is there anything else we can try?

I own apartments and even though my tenant's waste clogged the commode, I was responsible for getting it fixed. Luckily I was able to rent a snake from the hardware store and that fixed the problem. Call you landlord and find out what he wants you to do. He can either handle the details or instruct you on what he wants done. If he is handy, he can probably snake it for you, or a plumber will be called in. It is not only the landlord's responsibility, it is also his responsibility to get it fixed in a timely manner as you are paying rent for everything to work. Good luck.

Make sure that the cause isn't something someone in your family dropped in and flushed down. Some landlords may blame you in that case. Then try a snake; you can buy them or rent them. I recommend a power snake, having used hand-cranked ones myself. If you go in 25 feet and can't find and clear the clog with the snake, then call the maintenance guy.

I would just call the landlord. Most of the time it's there responsibility to fix it.

since you live in an apartment, maybe it is the "main" line that is clogged and not just yours, so yes, it is the apartment manager's responsibility, unless you accidentally dropped something in the toliet that caused the plug.
