this has to do with a cricket problem. here it is... answer right away, i need it soon!!!

[the 50 is below the 4, the 60 is below the 80, the 70 is below the 120, and the 80 is below the 170]

the top row of numbers is the chirps per minute, and the bottom row is the temp. when the cricket chirps that much. i cant find a continuous pattern, plz help by filling out the rest of the bottom of the table thanx so much!!

You have four data points:
(40,50)
(80,60)
(120,70)
(160,80)
where the first coordinate is the number of chirps and the second coordinate is the corresponding temperature.

Take the first two points and calculate
(difference in temperature)/(difference in chirps)
= (60-50)/(80-40)
= 0.25

Verify that you get 0.25 no matter which two points you use.
That tells you that the function is linear and
temp = m(chirps) + b
where
slope m = 0.25

Use a data point to determine b:
50 = 0.25(40) + b
b = 40

So the function is
temp = 0.25(chirps) + 40

Let's assume a linear relationship between the two.

If you notice that you have four numbers to the next temperature. So take the difference (10) and divide by 4 = 2½.

So each temperature should go up 2½ degrees.
40 --> 50
50 --> 52½
60 --> 55
70 --> 57½
80 --> 60
90 --> 62½
100 --> 65
110 --> 67½
120 --> 70
130 --> 72½
140 --> 75
150 --> 77½
160 --> 80
170 --> 82½

Now to figure out a formula...

Let x be the number of chirps. Let y be the temperature.

Take a couple of known "points" say (40, 50) and (80, 60)

To figure the "slope" you would take (y2 - y1) / (x2 - x1):

60 - 50
------------ = 10/40 = 1/4
80 - 40

We sort of noticed that before. The temperature goes up 10 degrees for every 40 chirps... 10/40 = 1/4

So write:
y = (1/4)x + b

Now let's just solve for b:
We know that (40, 50) should work:

50 = (1/4)40 + b
50 = 10 + b

50 - 10 = b
b = 40

So the final formula should be:
y = (1/4)x + 40

Let's test it with some values:
x = 80
y = (1/4)80 + 40
y = 20 + 40
y = 60
This matches with what we were given...

x = 110
y = (1/4)110 + 40
y = 27.5 + 40
y = 67.5
This matches with what we figured out before.

P.S. I think you made one typo... the 80 should be below the 160 in your chart...

every 10 degrees rise equates to 40 chirps per minute. So every 2.5 degrees rise equates to 10 chirps per minute.
