I understand that he is the best in the game.... however you could post the arguement that getting Cabrera and Willis helps a team more. If you could make a deal for Santana or for a big bat and a good pitcher what would you do?

Santana is consistently a great pitcher. He's very similar to Pedro Martinez - pitchers like him don't grow on mango trees. Big bats are easier to find. Look at Ortiz - he stunk in Minnesota, they cut him. Put him in the right environment and boom Mr. Clutch banging out the game winning home runs.

Granted hitters like Manny or A-Rod or Pujols don't come around everyday either - point being there are more of them than there are pitchers like Santana.

Red Sox fans always want the big offensive guns. If you've learned nothing from the last 2 WS wins - it's that pitching wins championships.

When the Yankees were banging out championships in the 1990s - what was the main thing they had - PITCHING!

I disagree with the dude that said Santana would win 25 with Boston. He is good, but I don't see a 25 game winner especially with a 5 man rotation. You have to give up more to get Santana if you want to have a shot at division title, league championship or World Series.

Depends what your teams needs are and what they're willing to give up for him.
If you already have good hitting you may need pitching.
Each team has different needs.
One thing to remember: when it gets down to crunch time, the team that pitches better usually wins.

Moondog: Lets get real, Beckett had a GREAT year, but I'm not ready to call him the best. When he performs consistently for four or five seasons like Santana has, then maybe you have a case.
