Ok, this is hard to explain to give you all a visual, and I don't have a scanner, but I'll try and explain. I just had my first ultrasound (i'm 10 weeks), and this is my first baby so I don't know a lot about ultrasounds. The tech didn't say anything except @ the end that this was my baby and pointed to the screen. On the pic in the center/left is the black circle (amniotic sac I'm guessing) with my baby in it. But my bf noticed over to the right and almost cut out of the pic is another black spot just like the one my baby is in, but you can't see anything in it, but you can't see the whole circle. He has 2 older children and 5 neices and nephews, and he said he's never seen two spots before. The tech didn't say anything about twins, but she didn't say much at all. Is there a possibility of twins or is that one of my female organs or something? Has anyone ever seen anything like this? Mothers of twins... did you see anything unusual before you found out you were having twins?

Thank you answer 6 for the pic, but it's not like that. It literally looks like the circle the baby is in. That's why it confuses me. I'm going to try and extend the question and see if I can post a pic this evening.

Also, I haven't seen my doc since the us but I go next week. I can ask her then. I just wanted to know if this is normal or possibly a 2nd baby.

My bladder was sooooo full, she let me go to the bathroom after taking pic of my ovaries. Then she found the baby.

it could be a couple of things. it could be a twin that the tech didnt want to point out since it was not a viable baby. as in there was no baby in the sac.

could be a odd shot of your ovary

could be a shadow that kind of showed up. i had that happen once before and freaked but then the tech assured me it only one baby.

babycenter.com has bulliten boards that have u/s tech on them that may be able to help you

Twin Ultrasound Pics

The round black area in the uterus is the gestational sac. To the right and almost out of the picture, there is another black rounded area. Fluid is black on ultrasound. You were seeing the amnionic fluid within the gestational sac, and YOUR urine filled bladder. I am assuming this was a transabdominal ultrasound (on the top of the skin), rather than a transvaginal ultrasound. You had to drink water to fill your bladder, in order to have the scan, right?

Example: this is a non-pregnant uterus. It is measured with the line across the fundus of the uterus. If the uterus was carrying a pregnancy, there would be a black circle in the center of the white line down the length of the uterus. To the right, there is the black, urine filled bladder.

If you have actually have the image that shows this, bring it to your next pre-natal appointment. Your OB/GYN should be able to decypher the image for you!

EDIT: Have you looked at ultrasound images which shows twins? If you were carrying twins, in separate sacs, it would look like this:

Even if you feel like you have totally emptied your bladder, you probably did not completely empty your bladder!

I am pretty sure that a boys testicles will not actually drop until later in pregnancy. At 18 weeks the tech was not sure what she was seeing at first and she first guessed a boy because she said the testicles would not have dropped yet. However, few minutes later the little one finally allowed a good look and we saw 3 little lines. So I think it is probably way too early to tell. Good luck and Congrats though.

If the tech and your doctor DID NOT tell you about twins then it's probably NOT twins. They have been trained to read what they mean and I'm sure even if one missed it, the other would have spotted it with no problem. Rely on your doctor for your medical advise and not your bf or this board since he's the one with the most reliable experience. Congrats on the little one and good luck!

And I don't think the tech or doctor would NOT tell you if there was a twin starting to form...even if the baby wasn't "viable".

A few months ago, I was very sick, zero energy, freezing cold, depressed, weight gain, thought I was dying. I read every word of this Hypothyroidism Revolution program and followed all the advice. My life turned around the first week. I started to feel human again. Within weeks my energy came back and I felt like living again.

I saw the exact same thing, and will post a picture of it for your below. My doctor explained that this little ball was what was going to develop into the placenta. I was at about the same point gestationally when this sonogram was done. Good luck and congrats!!

Edit: I'm interested to see your picture, if you can post one! Good luck in the meantime!

There is a chance that it had *been* a twin pregnancy and one of the babies didn't develop hence the second "empty" sac. It also could be the placenta forming. Without seeing the US I couldn't tell you.
Best of luck to you!

What you are seeing is the distinction between the amnion and the chorion. The two will fuse within a week or so and there won't be a line anymore.

It is possible. I would schedule another US in a few weeks or bring the picture back there and discuss it with the tech or your doctor.
