If so, who are you applauding? The director, the theatre staff, the actors?

Yes. It is the movie overall, the effect that it had on me. I also clap during the movie if it is pertinent, I also laugh if it is funny. I don't feel that there is anything wrong with expressing myself.

It depends. If the movie was an excellent movie and the ending script complety caught me off guard and other's were clapping, yes, I would clap. I would be clapping because the movie was a good movie, so I guess I would be applauding the director, the theatre staff, and the actors.

Ha ha, I love this question. Star for you! I make fun of the people that clap at the end of the movie. It's retarded. They are clapping at a screen. I can understand if the actors were live on stage performing but their not. The only people dumber then the one who starts clapping first are the other morons who clap too because someone else is clapping. Ignorance is truly bliss.

Good question. I have clapped after all the STAR WARS movies(BIG STAR WARS fan) I clap mainly because I liked the movie and it was worth watching it. I've seen other movies and I don't clap because it was either boring, disgusting, or just plain bad. Depends on the movie.

I do if a movie is really good. But I'm usually the only one. The last movie I clapped at was "King of Kong: A Fist Full of Quarters" because I went to see it as a joke and it turned out to be a fantastic movie.

No. I don't for the same reason I don't yell at the screen in a horror film telling the actor not to go in there. It's pointless. The actors / directors are not there to receive my gratification in the form of applause. They receive instead in a monetary format.

i don't go to the theater very often, but when i do, i don't clap. Clapping after a movie is odd to me. one should clap after a play or any live performance, but think about it, do you clap and applaud a CD?

Depends on the circumstances really. Film festivals yes, for sure, but the director is usually there. Pre-screenings and special events for sure but a regular film after the premiere it does seem a bit pointless.

No. What was funny though when I was in Europe I flew between Germany and Italy and they clap after the plane lands. Thought that was weird.

I do applaud, and I'm clapping because I enjoyed the afternoon's entertainment. Plus everyone looks at you like you're a weirdo and that's kind of fun, too!
