what is the cola increase for social security in 2008 and when will it start?

I went to look it up on the social security website a couple weeks ago..and if I can remember correctly, it says it will start on Jan 1st. and the amount is going up 2% or something like that.

Does that mean an increase of food stamps as well? 2% last year it was like 4% why is it less? Inflation is a lot higher than that. How does this make up for the cost of living? I don't understand the whole system because the only give you half the money you need to live on and won't let you make enough to support yourself. Then you have to tell the person who is potentially going to hire you that you can only make $400 extra a month. That equates to working only 15 hours a week! Our system sucks!

I just got the notice of increase today. It will start the first of January but what a joke it is. I just don't know how I'll ever spend that $20 a month. Oh, I remember.....I'll spend it...and more...in increase the next time I get groceries!!!!
